Our Story

An established and respected home builder with hundreds of homes in its portfolio, McKinney Builders was founded more than 50 years ago by Mac McKinney. Mac now works side-by-side with his son, Austin McKinney, and Jim Beveridge, who leads the company’s strategy and finance as well as building relationships with respected and forward-thinking developers. Austin serves as the project manager, attending to the details for all of McKinney Builder's projects.

McKinney Builders is known for its outstanding contributions and performance in several large, master-planned developments they have been and are currently involved in – namely Serenbe, Trilith (formerly Pinewood Forest), the Gardens at Arbor Springs, The Village at Williams Park and others. These developments have attracted interest and accolades throughout the country and world for their cutting-edge architecture, building technology, walkability, community amenities and innovation. McKinney Builders is the leading historic builder in Serenbe as well as the current leading builder in Trilith by closings and starts.

In 2020, McKinney Builders received recognition in nine categories at the 40th Annual OBIE Awards, particularly excelling in the $400,000-$499,999 and $500,000-$599,999 price points. Awards included “Best Building Design-Detached Model: $400,000-$499,999” and “Best Building Design-Attached Model: $400,499-$500,000 and “$500,000-$599,999” for their work at Trilith.

In the past eight years, McKinney Builders has built a mix of custom homes and attainable homes in the very best neighborhoods. This allows for a lower price point than custom builds without compromising on quality or features. As Jim Beveridge says, “We build dream homes within reach. Think of the features of a $1 million home in a smaller footprint. Because we shrink the square footages, we’re able to offer million-dollar features in our average price range, roughly $550,000.”

Mac, Austin and Jim stand behind their work and would be proud to live in any of the homes they construct. All homes are solid construction with the latest proven energy efficient building technology (often using geothermal energy technology) and timeless architecture.

What distinguishes McKinney Builders is personal customer service. They realize that each client is different, and they develop personal relationships with their customers to learn their goals and personality so they can work to please them. As custom builders, they are open to building any design or style and are known for their use of cutting-edge building technology and efficient design. The team stays in close contact with clients throughout the entire construction process, allowing for an efficient and responsive process.

Given the seismic shifts brought on by Covid-19 and the changes to where people work and how they live, McKinney Builders sees great opportunity south of Atlanta and in locations where buyers feel like they are on vacation. The southern edge of Atlanta has emerged as a fantastic opportunity to build dream homes and communities, often with a new urbanism flair. These communities tend to have a strong sense of community, walkability to dining and shopping options, golf cart accessible paths, and easy access to the airport and downtown Atlanta.

Looking to the future, McKinney Builders will be building in the Lake Burton market, a prestigious lake in north Georgia, and also Cashiers, North Carolina. Jim says, “We like to align ourselves with developers who will help us participate in bringing something exciting and valuable to our clients. We want to build something remarkable.”

Team

Mac McKinney

Mac McKinney, President of McKinney Builders, has built hundreds of single-family homes ranging in price from $300,000 to over $1,000,000 and personally supervises all phases of construction. He is a member of Southern Living Custom Builder Program program and has built many beautiful custom homes throughout the southern edge of Atlanta and on Lake Wedowee, AL. Formerly, Mac was the president of the Home Builders Association of Midwest Georgia.  Mac has a particular passion for "siting" homes. His knowledge and experience help him to solve the puzzle of finding the right house for the right person on the right lot.

Austin McKinney

Austin is the son of Mac McKinney and has learned construction from the ground up. After graduating from the McWhorter School of Construction Science at Auburn University and supervising construction of healthcare facilities in Maine and North Carolina, Austin returned to Georgia to join McKinney Builders as project manager, where he attends to the details for all projects and keeps them on track.

Jim Beveridge

Jim helps oversee strategy, finance, and communications for McKinney Builders. He joined forces with Mac McKinney in 2012. Prior to his current role, Jim was a banker to home builders and developers for 28 years. Jim has a BBA in Finance from the University of Georgia and a MBA in Real Estate from Georgia State University. Jim is passionate about high performance homes, timeless architecture, and building communities that look as beautiful 100 years from now as they do today.

The Gardens at Arbor Springs is a 55 and better community that McKinney Builders is currently building homes in Newnan. The homes are a beautiful English-cottage style, and residents will have access to a host of amenities. All homes are designed by Southern Living architect Mitch Ginn and designer Bspok Precision Homes.

McKinney Builders is honored to partner with Operation Finally Home to build a new, custom, mortgage-free home for a deserving veteran and their family in Newnan. Operation Finally Home is a national, non-profit organization dedicated to building homes for wounded, ill or injured veterans, surviving spouses and their families to provide a strong foundation to help them move forward with their lives.
