Our Story

Mac McKinney founded McKinney Builders in 1970, and has been building custom homes and light commercial buildings for over 40 years. Mac's first large-scale project in 1973 encompassed over 200 condos in Union City. In 1974, Mac moved to Newnan when Shenandoah was established and built homes as a part of the new development. He has been building custom homes in Newnan and the southern edge of Atlanta ever since. Through the years, McKinney Builders has constructed hundreds of custom single family homes, condos, and light commercial and industrial spaces - including doctors offices and a pet resort!

McKinney Builders is a family business. Mac's son, Austin McKinney, serves as the project manager, attending to the details for all of McKinney Builder's projects. Mac's daughter, Evan McKinney, works in sales with Atlanta Fine Homes Sotheby's International Realty to sell his projects. The McKinney family has always lived in the neighborhoods that McKinney Builders builds. They moved to the bucolic community of Serenbe in 2006 where McKinney Builders has built nearly 50 homes. Other recent projects include building homes in Pinewood Forrest, and developing the Gardens at Arbor Springs neighborhood which will have 71 homes. In the past five years, McKinney Builders has built a mix of custom homes and attainable homes in the very best neighborhoods. This allows for a lower price point than custom but does not compromise on quality or features.

McKinney Builder's business outlook is centered on trust, honesty, and integrity. They understand that pleasing clients means treating people fairly and always telling the truth. McKinney Builders has adopted the mantra of "Quality First" and shares the common goal of creating beautiful homes and communities for all of their clients.

Mac, Austin and Jim stand behind their work and would be proud to live in any of the homes they construct. All homes are solid construction with the latest proven energy efficient building technology (often using geothermal energy technology) and timeless architecture.

What distinguishes McKinney Builders is personal customer service. They realize that each client is different, and they develop personal relationships with their customers to learn their goals and personality so they can work to please them. As custom builders, they are open to building any design or style. The team stays in close contact with clients throughout the entire construction process, which allows clients to get answers quickly.

With the northern markets of Atlanta becoming more congested, communities on the southern edge of Atlanta are emerging as a fantastic opportunity to build dream homes and communities, often with a new urbanism flair. Communities south of Atlanta tend to have a strong sense of community, walkability to dining and shopping options, golf cart accessible paths, and easy access to the airport and downtown Atlanta.

"In today's market, you must accommodate your customers, as they are far more educated than ever before. When the buyer and seller work closely together, both with a full understanding of budget and time constraints, it makes for a top quality product and a win-win situation." - Mac McKinney

McKinney Builders is the historic and leading builder in Serenbe, having built nearly 50 homes. Serenbe is a gorgeous, progressive community connected to nature on the edge of Atlanta. A hidden gem, this community is best described as a place that seamlessly melds quaint, small-town charm with the progressive mindset and artistic approach of a big city, all with the lush Georgia woods and Chattahoochee Hills as a backdrop. What originated as a small inn has evolved organically over the years to become something much more, sprouting distinct neighborhoods, a farm, restaurants, new lodging, shops, theatre and beyond.

McKinney Builders is proud to construct homes in the Pinewood Forrest neighborhood. Located adjacent to Pinewood Film Studios, this community celebrates creativity. The Pinewood Forrest development has numerous amenities including over 300 hotel rooms, numerous retail and restaurant options, pedestrian pathways and green space, and an integrated wellness center.

The Village at Williams Park is located in Smyrna, within walking distance to Smyrna Market Village, just a few miles from Suntrust Park, the new home of the Atlanta Braves, and right outside downtown Atlanta.
